5 Minutes With Seetan Varsani - A Career In Security

What is your role at Corps and what does it entail?

I am a Regional Operations Director for the south region – mainly London itself but also the surrounding areas. It entails having to manage a portfolio worth £23 million. A team of senior contract managers and contract managers report into me and the role is focussed on operational performance and client relationships.

When did you start your career in security?

In January 2004, I finished a Master’s degree in business. Shortly after that I joined Rentokil Initial on their graduate programme which lasted 18 months. Within the first six months of the programme I was introduced to the security division, so I’ve now been working in the sector since July 2004.

If you weren’t in security, what would you be doing as a career?

Before my Master’s degree, I was actually accepted onto the RAF pilot scheme. My parents wanted me to do more studying, so I decided to go back to university!

Can you tell us a little about your background / what was your first job?

Prior to my Master’s degree, I actually started out in hospitality. My undergraduate degree was in hotel management which allowed me to do a year at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane – which was also quite an experience.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

Everyone here, all the people I work with and the people you meet on the ground. The work environment really makes the job enjoyable and it’s a great thing to be a part of the Corps team.
